New Snakes!
Went to a show this past weekend and was given 2 beautiful little presents. A male Pastel:
I cannot tell you how happy I am to have these guys, they are so friendly and just beautiful animals. Down the road they could prove to be worth a lot of money as well :-p
And a female Enchi:

Big momma is due to pop
I checked on her last night and she is in her last week of pregnancy for sure. This is the double rex hairless bred to the unknown hairless. I am very excited to see what may come of this. I will post some pics as soon as they are born.

The Rat Plan
I figured its time to get some things down on paper. It both helps me plan things out and lets you all know what I am planning.
As many of you may have guessed I started my rat colony for feeding my snakes. There is a wonderful side effect to this. In the breeding I can choose who gets fed and who stays to pass along their traits. Right now I have a group of 1.4 albino rats, 1.1 Hairless, 1 brown rex, 1.1 Dumbo, .1 black hooded and a few normal brown. The original feeder group is the albinos, not sure if they have another name, but white with red eyes and a normal coat.
From this group I plan to use the most desirable and breed them for pets. The rex and Dumbos are extremely well behaved and gorgeous looking. I know of a few places close by looking to buy some and hopefully I can offer them directly to people looking for pets.
It may sound cruel having feeders in the same topic as pets, but my logic is this. I only want to keep the most desirable for pets to create a line that is gentle, well behaved, and good looking. My snakes do not care about any of this. Those with bad genetics or behavior will be put to use in other roles. Many rat enthusiast will hate me for putting it like this and I imagine I will get a lot of flak but it is the way things are and I will do my best to treat all the rats the best I can while I have them.
I do love rats, they are a most interesting animal and be assured they will be treated as pets as long as I have them regardless of where they end up. I will post a match up of who is going to be with who soon and what I expect to see from them.
